Snakes, also known as ophidians, are reptiles that belong to the order of Squamata or scaly animals, as do iguanas, lizards and chameleons. Characterized by the absence of limbs, snakes are animals that have survived since the Cretaceous period, and to date, more than 3460 species are recorded throughout our planet, although only 450 of them are poisonous.
